There are two ways to look at spending money: as an expense or as an investment.
Watch the video and have a discussion with your class or someone you know. Below, there are some suggested questions or writing prompts.
Money can be a controversial topic. That's because we all have different opinions about how we think money should be spent.
One person may think spending money at the dentist’s office is not worth the expense. Someone else (like me) would view that as an investment in their health.
You get to choose how you spend your money. So how will you choose?
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:
Do you earn money from a job or allowance? Do you get money for your birthday or holidays? What do you usually do with the money you earn or that is gifted to you?
What kinds of things do you think are worth spending your money on? Why do you think those things are worth spending your money on?
Is it easier to spend someone else’s money (like a parent’s money) or your own money? Why do you think this?
When you buy something for yourself, does it have more value to you? For example, do you take better care of it or use it more often? Why do you think this is?
What kinds of expenses do you think are good investments? Why do you think this?
If you could invest your money in something you think is valuable, what would it be and why would you invest in it?
