Introducing... The Choose Well Program Podcast
Welcome to The Choose Well Program Podcast. This podcast was created to provide encouragement and helpful information for educators and parents. Join me (Mister Brown) and my podcast guests in learning, growing, and encouraging each other.
Who Is the Host?
[1:13] Me, Mister Brown, of course! Along with some special guests, the podcast is an extension of The Choose Well Program.
Yes, my legal name is Mister Brown. I changed my name to go along with my brand. I really didn’t want to be known by two different names. So many people and students already call me Mister Brown, it just seemed like the right thing to do. You can find out more about me and the speaking that I do on my website HelloMisterBrown.com. And yes, even my wife calls me Mister Brown.
What Is The Choose Well Program About?
[2:15] The Choose Well Program is all about choices and school culture because, "When you make better choices you will live a better life, so choose well. Oh yeah!" We believe the power of choices is so important for students as well as adults.
We are not saying that life will be perfect when you make better choices. The idea is that making better choices will create a better life over time. Even if bad circumstances don’t change, we can be better people because of the choices we have made.
"When you make better choices you will live a better life, so choose well. Oh yeah!"
Through this message, I teach people that we always have the ability to respond to our circumstances however we choose. The way we respond can be beneficial or detrimental to us in any situation. It won’t always be easy to make the right choices, but it is our choice.
A Positive Impact On School Culture
[4:30] The Choose Well message is for everyone. I do speak in schools and to students a lot, but I also speak to educators, professionals, and parents. In fact, I really see The Choose Well Program have a positive impact on school culture when the whole school community gets involved.
From the bus drivers and lunch staff to the students, teachers, and parents, everyone can share The Choose Well message. The biggest impact on school culture is when the whole school community has the same shared experience. It is so powerful when everyone is growing toward the same goal of making better choices.
Some of my most favorite Choose Well events with school communities are family engagement nights. It is so fun to watch students, educators, and families interact with each other. The events are not about student academics or student discipline, it’s a real shared experience.
The Choose Well Program really is about engaging the whole school community and not giving educators another thing that they need to do. We simply come along side what the school is already doing and help them make connections with their students and families.
Why The Choose Well Program Podcast?
[8:56] Topics on the podcast will include SEL, parenting, affirmations, connecting with kids, choices, and so much more.
One of my favorite topics is about consider others. My daughter, Sohpia, and I recently did a Conversation With the Browns podcast about this topic. “Consider others” is one our family’s favorite phrases we say to each other. To consider others is to recognize that people have inherent worth and dignity. We should treat people with respect even when we have differences. Sometimes, considering others means putting other people’s needs or wants before our own.
The Choose Well Program Podcast will include a lot of interviews and conversations with people on our team and educators. There is also a two-part interview with a student I met whose life was changed after hearing me speak at his school.
When Will the podcast Be Out?
[12:08] Starting September 15, 2022, podcast episodes will be launched every Thursday. It will be available on every podcast platform, the website, and YouTube. You can get notifications about new episodes by signing up for our weekly Choose Well email on the website home page.
Back To the Why
[12:49] I really want people to understand the power of their choices individually and corporately through their school community. Over the years, I found that communicating with students was important, but being able to connect with the adults in a school community as well has the biggest impact on school culture. Bringing educators, parents, and students together to work towards a positive school culture is the best outcome.
The Quote of the Day
[13:45] Here is a quote to start off the podcast: “Responsibility looks good on you. Own it and rock it. Choose well.”
“Responsibility looks good on you. Own it and rock it. Choose well.”
I’m a little different from the stereotypical guy. I really like to shop. My mom taught me how to shop for great discounts. Anyway, I recently went shopping with my wife because my suits were getting really old. Some suits fit really well and the ones that didn’t fit well went back on the rack.
This quote, “Responsibility looks good on you. Own it and rock it. Choose well,” is a good analogy for clothes fitting well. You know that feeling you get when you find clothing that fits really well and looks really good on you? That is what it’s like to be responsible and make good choices. It fits really well and it looks good on you. Responsibility looks good on all of us, so own it and rock it. It’s a choice and when you make better choices you will live a better life, so choose well. Oh yeah!
